SHORT FILMS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
Perhaps even less so in short films than in features, and probably for reasons of resources, war films rarely depict warfare in the military sense of the word. Few battles, few dead and wounded… the aim is rather to show how war—or to be more specific, the state of war—alters our habits and perspectives, consumes our bodies and minds, transforms our lives. Whether French, Belgian, Bulgarian, American, Algerian, Finnish or Israeli, our proposed selection of films is intended, dare we say, to be a pleasant change. We travel through time, space and genres, from experimental to intimist works, from teen flick to animated war epic. We may take delight in observing that form of representation is a question that continues to be raised over and over again.
